Shadow Keep holds a hidden path for the Elden Ring DLC players with a keen eye. Following the path under Shadow Keep will allow players to access a whole new area by accessing a coffin that will transport them to a different part of the game map that is inaccessible otherwise. While this Elden Ring secret starts in Shadow Keep, it’ll take you all the way to and through the Darklight Catacombs and onto the Abyssal Woods.
Navigating to Shadow Keep’s Hidden Ladder
If you start from the Main Gate plaza where you fight with the Golden Hippo you’ll want to head up the stairs through the door that was inaccessible prior to the fight with the Hippo. Navigate up the staircase, fighting the enemies if you wish. Then through a dining hall with two knights, up and out onto the main rampart of the keep. Head straight across the mini-bridge and then past all of the blazing bonfires all the way to the other side of the rampart.
Be careful as there are numerous sneaky enemies that are waiting to ambush you along this path. However, once you get to the end of the path there will be a ladder on the left hand side. Take this ladder to the bottom of the keep wall into a watery area. Do not go into the water, rather hug the wall and go under the waterfall. This will take you to another ladder which you must descend.
Once at this ladder you will find a domains of dragons picture and then head through the illusory door on your right where you will find the coffin. Interact with the coffin, and much like the main Elden Ring game, you’ll be transported to another area by riding the coffin over a waterfall. Once out of the coffin you will arrive at Scadu Altus and a new site of grace.
This area has numerous enemies to fight and items to find, however, you can either fight or run past them as nothing is holding you in this area. Head southeast towards another waterfall and you’ll find yet another site of grace to save your progress. You’ll need to hug the left wall as you get to the site of grace, and then ride straight for a bit before jumping over to the other side. Simply hug the right wall until you’ve reached a shadowy area near the bottom of this water area. Here is where you’ll find the Darklight Catacombs.
Darklight Catacombs
The Darklight Catacombs are very familiar territory for Elden Ring players as they are very much like the ones in the main game. Filled with enemies, treasures, and a fair bit of Glovewort. The Darklight Catacombs culminate with a boss fight, but this one gatekeeps an entire portion of the Shadow of the Erdtree map. Once through, you’ll be able to access the Abyssal Woods.
